July 1, 2024 Begins New Incremental Residential Rate Change
The County Board of Supervisors approved a residential rate increase for solid waste collection services at their January 25, 2022 public hearing to begin in small increments from 2022 and each year through 2025 on July 1. By law, the fees are based on the cost to provide residential curbside collection services. The standard level of service includes weekly garbage, weekly organics, and bi-weekly recycling collection; weekly used oil collection; one bulky waste pickup appointment every 12 months; and Household Hazardous Waste drop off service. Depending on the size of the Garbage cart, starting July 1, 2024, the total monthly rate for the standard level of service will range from $35.18 to $47.88, until July 2025. This increase equates to an additional $1.62-$2.21 per month. Please note, the monthly rate may be more for customers using additional carts or services. Learn more about Residential Rates and Fees.
The Sacramento County Department of Waste Management & Recycling is committed to providing reliable services at the lowest possible rates and our rates continue to be comparable to, and in some cases, lower than surrounding jurisdictions. However, we understand that rate increases can be challenging. We encourage our customers to learn if they qualify for monthly rebates through our Solid Waste Lifeline Rate Assistance Program.
Due to the rate increase beginning on July 1, 2024, customer bills may reflect prorated amounts for the month of July depending on the billing cycle start and end dates.
