Offers free and confidential permitting and environmental compliance assistance to businesses on behalf of local government in the greater Sacramento area, to promote business success and environmental quality. The Annual BERC Awards honors the top performers in the Sacramento region that have implemented outstanding achievements in Energy Conservation, Water Conservation, Pollution Prevention, Solid Waste Reduction, Green Building and Transportation/Air Quality.
Sacramento Area Sustainable Business Program:
A regional partnership that encourages businesses to adopt sustainable practices. Certifies and promotes businesses throughout the greater Sacramento area that have taken voluntary actions to conserve energy, water, reduce waste, pollution, recycle and purchase recycled products, improve air quality, and implement green building measures. This program is sponsored by the Sacramento Regional Solid Waste Authority (SWA), Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), the Regional Water Authority (RWA), and the Water Forum and operated by the Business Environmental Resource Center (BERC).
Sacramento Regional Solid Waste Authority (SWA):
A joint powers authority of Sacramento County and the City of Sacramento. The SWA regulates all commercial waste collection through a non-exclusive commercial solid waste franchise system, and regulates the management of construction and demolition waste. Current SWA members are the City of Sacramento and the County of Sacramento.
Sacramento Regional Recycling Market Development Zone (SRRMDZ) Loan Program:
Created to provide low-interest loans up to $2 million dollars to eligible businesses and non-profits that use secondary (post consumer or post industrial) waste materials to manufacture new products or that reduce the waste resulting from the manufacture of a product. To be eligible, businesses must be located within the SRRMDZ. The Business Environmental Resource Center (BERC) is the administering agency for the SRRMDZ.
