Secure Your Load! It's the Law
When bringing disposal/recycling items to any County facility, by law, you must secure your load.
Why does California State Vehicle Code require loads be properly covered or secured?
Litter And Debris From Unsecured Loads Is:
- Unlawful
- Unsightly
- Dangerous To Other Drivers
- Ends Up In Local Waterways
- Harms Wildlife
- Contaminates Our Environment
Violations can result in fines for both unsecured loads and littering
- CA State Vehicle Code Sections 23114.(a), 23115.(a) and CA Penal Code 374.3(a-j)
How to properly secure your load:
- Put lighter weight items at the bottom
- Use tarps, straps, rope, bungee cords, nets
- Tie larger items directly to your vehicle
- Don’t overload your vehicle
