Solid Waste Facility Fee Adjustments – Board Approval
On September 22, 2026, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors approved adjustments to solid waste facility fees for Kiefer Landfill and the North Area Recovery Station (NARS). The updated fees will take effect January 1, 2027 and will help maintain safe, efficient, and compliant disposal and recovery operations for self‑haul and commercial customers.
The adjustments include:
- NARS – 4.5% annual increase for weighed loads for five years; $5 increase for flat‑fee loads in Year 1 only
- Kiefer Landfill – 4.5% annual increase for weighed loads in Years 1 and 2, 5.5% in Years 3 and 4, and 6.5% in Year 5; $5 increase for flat‑fee loads in Year 1 only
These fee updates reflect rising costs for fuel, equipment, parts, contracted services, and labor, as well as expanding regulatory requirements under Senate Bill 1383 and the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Even with these changes, Sacramento County’s facility fees remain competitive with other regional facilities.
Beginning January 1, 2027, NARS will also adjust Sunday operating hours, closing one hour earlier, from 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Customer use data shows significantly lower demand during the final operating hour, and aligning the schedule with actual use reduces operating costs while maintaining efficient service.
A detailed fee schedule will be posted on this webpage by December 1, 2026, in advance of the January 1, 2027 effective date.
